What can you do for your immune system to improve?

The human body consists of trillions of cells. These cells combine to form organs or tissues that serve specific functions. If one cell dies, a new cell takes its place. The chemical signals known as hormones are used to communicate between cells. All bodily processes are controlled by hormones, including metabolism and immunity.

Hormones can be described as chemicals produced by glands in the body. They are chemicals that travel through the bloodstream and function as messengers to control how our bodies work. Some hormones are made internally, while others are created outside the body.

When a hormone-producing gland releases their contents into the bloodstream, hormone production begins. Once hormones become active, they move throughout the body until reaching their target organ. Some hormones may only remain active for a limited time. Others hormones remain active longer and still have an influence on the body's functioning long after they leave bloodstream.

Some hormones can be produced in large amounts. Others are produced in small amounts.

Some hormones are made at certain times in our lives. The production of estrogen can occur during puberty and pregnancy, as well as menopause and old age. Estrogen helps women develop breasts, maintain bone density, and prevent osteoporosis. It promotes hair growth as well as keeping skin soft and smooth.
